Spring: In March and April, we tap sugar maple trees and boil down the sap into maple syrup. Our migrant songbirds return with a flurry of activity and song. The songs continue into the night with chorusing Wood Frogs and Spring Peeper frogs. Garden seedlings sprout in our greenhouse, and the chickens and ducks really ramp up their egg production. Our geese and turkeys make their nests too and begin starting families. Grunting squealing little piglets are born. Possible activities include: helping with maple syruping, planting and watering seedlings, preparing the gardens, helping tend the farm animals, collecting eggs, clearing brush, pruning trees, managing the compost pile, hiking, bird watching, bicycling, boating, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, touring/sightseeing, train rides, relaxing, reading, star-gazing,... |
